Library, park district start new book club

The Gail Borden Public Library and the Elgin Parks and Recreation Department have started a new club.

The "walk & talk" book club will meet from 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, The at The Centre of Elgin, 100 Symphony Way. Track pass registration is needed; nonresidents will need to pay a $21 track pass fee to use The Centre's walking track.

The new Gail Borden Library Walking Book Club will be stepping off with a whole body approach - fuel for the mind and physical fitness for the frame. Except for the first meeting, the group will meet each at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gail Borden outdoor stage (between the library and the bike path, by the river). On rainy days, the group will meet at The Centre.

At the first meeting, a member of the Centre training staff will provide walking tips and group members will select their first book to walk and talk about. The length of the book will determine how many weeks they will be walking.

To register, visit gailborden.info. The library is at 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin. For details, call Nancy Haggard or Danielle Henson at (847) 429-4690.
