Fire displaces Carpentersville family
A fire at Fox View Apartments in Carpentersville has displaced a family, but no one was injured.
It was reported at 11:32 a.m., said John Skillman, battalion chief with the Carpentersville and Countryside Fire Protection District. The fire was in a children's bedroom on the second floor of a two-story apartment at 7 Oak Crest, Unit 2. It housed a 26-year-old woman and four children - an 11-month-old girl and boys ages 6, 7 and 9.
Heavy smoke and flames were coming out of a window when firefighters arrived. The flames were contained to the bedroom, but the rest of the apartment was damaged by heat and smoke.
The department has been declared uninhabitable; the family was moved to another apartment in the complex. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
The complex is along Oxford Drive north of Kings Road, west of Dundee-Crown High School.
Firefighters from the East and West Dundee and Rutland-Dundee fire protection districts assisted.
