Chicago police shoot 22-year-old

The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting of a 22-year-old man by a Chicago police officer in a McDonald's parking lot.

No officers were hurt in the Friday night incident in the South Austin neighborhood on the city's West Side.

Details were still being determined, but Police News Affairs Officer John Mirabelli said the officer fired when the man drove his van directly at police who were trying to make a narcotics stop.

The man was shot in the shoulder and taken in critical condition to Mt. Sinai Hospital.

Mirabelli said preliminary information showed that police were trying to stop the man for a narcotics-related investigation, when the man accelerated his vehicle toward them.
