When: 1 p.m. today

Where: Silver Cross Field, Joliet

Advancement: winner plays winner of today's 10 a.m. semifinal between LaSalle-Peru and Chatham Glenwood at noon Saturday for state championship; losers play in third-place game at 9 a.m. Saturday

On the mound: Grayslake Central will start senior right-hander Aaron Snyder (10-2, 1.40 ERA). Joliet Catholic will pitch Kendall Paluch (10-2, 2.88 ERA), Brock Liston (8-0, 1.78 ERA) or A.J. Plese (7-0, 1.36 ERA).

Grayslake Central at the plate: Junior Angelo Gargano leads the Rams with 6 home runs, 12 doubles, 49 RBI and a .391 batting average. Other top hitters include Kurt Schmidt (3 HR, 10 2B, 22 RBI, .348 BA) and Mike Gentile (4 HR, 10 2B, 23 RBI, .319 BA). The Rams are hitting .301.

Joliet Catholic at the plate: The Hilltoppers are batting an amazing .410. Lefty-hitting senior outfielder Steve Cservenyak slammed 2 home runs, including a grand slam, in the Hilltoppers' sectional final win over Illiana Christian. For the season, he has 11 homers, 42 RBI and a .330 batting average. Other good hitters include Nick Ratajczak (6 HR, 12 2B, 5 3B, 36 RBI, .486 BA); Dave Cladis (7 2B, .430 BA); A.J. Plese (4 HR, 35 RBI, .333 BA); Nate Ruzich (35 RBI, .409 BA); Kevin Hulbert (2 HR, 13 2B, 27 RBI, .438 BA); and John Gerl (7 2B, .400 BA)
