Hoffman Estates, smile for the red-light camera
Motorists cruising through Hoffman Estates could see red-light cameras installed as early as October.
The village is still waiting for approvals from IDOT for cameras at five village intersection. But Monday, the board approved enforcement laws for the cameras. Police Chief Clinton Herdegen said if all goes well, construction could start in July or August, and it would take three to four months for installation. These dates are still tentative.
Once the cameras are active, police would give motorists a 30-day grace period to get used to the cameras, Herdegen said. They're to be installed at Golf and Bartlett roads; Golf and Barrington roads; Golf and Bartlett roads; Higgins and Barrington roads; and Higgins and Roselle roads.
Tickets would be mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle within 90 days of the infraction. Fines are $100 or $200 if not paid on time.
