Elgin, South Elgin cops say they've rounded up two more drug dealers

In yet another pair of undercover stings, Elgin and South Elgin police officers on Wednesday nabbed two more men suspected of dealing drugs.

Marco A. Gonzalez, 25, whose address is unknown, was arrested Wednesday evening after meeting with an undercover Elgin officer within 1,000 feet of Gifford Park to sell 2.5 grams of cocaine for $120, police said.

He is charged with delivery of a controlled substance within 1,000 feet of a park, a Class X felony, delivery of a controlled substance, a Class 1 felony and possession of a controlled substance, a Class 4 felony.

Kane County Judge John Noverini Thursday morning set his bond at 10 percent of $250,000. Gonzalez is due in court June 23 at the Kane County Judicial Center. He faces up to 30 years in prison, if convicted of the Class X felony.

In addition, police say that on two separate occasions Kenneth Michaelis, 54, of the 42W600 block of Steeple Chase Court in St. Charles, sold marijuana to an undercover officer on the far west side of South Elgin.

According to court documents, the first transaction occurred May 26 and involved 27.5 grams sold for $210.

As part of a joint investigation with Elgin's drug task force, South Elgin police arrested Michaelis after the second drug deal that took place at 8:44 p.m. Wednesday and involved 61.3 grams of marijuana he attempted to sell for $480, documents said.

Michaelis was charged with two felony counts of delivery of marijuana and his bond was set at 10 percent of $5,000. He is due in court June 23 at the Kane County Judicial Center and faces up to five years in prison.

Neither man could post bond and was taken to the Kane County jail.

Meanwhile, Elgin police officials have said they're adamant about going after people dealing drugs on the streets.

Wednesday's arrests marked the fifth and six such undercover cases Elgin police have dealt with.

Tuesday, Elgin police arrested three men accused of selling heroin, cocaine and marijuana and last week, another man was busted after police said he sold cocaine to an undercover officer.
