Arlington Heights history told through cemeteries

Wandering through old cemeteries can be fun and informative. But sometimes it's frustrating. Who was that person and why does he have just a large marker? Or how do you translate the German on that stone? Why did she die so young?

A good place to start is "Silent Stories from Arlington Heights' Past," an exhibit open through Aug. 16 at the Heritage Gallery and Shop on the Arlington Heights Historical Museum Campus, 112 W. Fremont St.

You can learn about some of the people behind the stones through biographical sketches, photographs, personal artifacts and the work that others have done exploring the local cemeteries. Then you can pick one of the cemeteries and go visit it yourself.

The exhibit is sponsored by Glueckert Funeral Home.
