Yoga movie doesn't enlighten viewers; quest for domestic bliss

'Enlighten Up'

Kate Churchill, a former producing director at Chicago's Lookingglass Theatre, follows a non-religious, 29-year-old Canadian ex-journalist (Nick Rosen) around the world as he seeks enlightenment through the practice of yoga and the teachings of yoga masters. Having taken only two yoga classes, I must conclude after seeing Churchill's doc that performing yoga is more fulfilling than watching someone in a movie do it. The investigative journey is interesting; the payoff for Rosen, and us, is minimal. Not rated. 82 minutes.

At the Century Centre, Chicago.

'Away We Go'

Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes directs a darkly comic, daringly detached indie art house road film starring John Krasinski ("The Office") and Maya Rudolph ("SNL") as a pregnant couple trying to find a place to raise a family. In their Odyssey-like quest, they confront strange creatures such as self-absorbed parents, a harpy co-worker, a New-Agey elitist and other denizens trapped in various forms of domestic hell. An eccentric, studied, yet moving movie. Written by novelist (and Lake Forest native) Dave Eggers and his novelist wife Vendela Vida. Rated R for language, sexual situations. 97 minutes.

At the Century Centre and River East 21 in Chicago.

'College'

Buster Keaton's 1927 classic silent comedy concerns a student who tries to be athletic to impress a girl. Famed organist Dennis Scott handles the Wurlitzer. Sponsored by the Fox Valley Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. $10 admission; $5 for students and seniors. 66 minutes.

7:30 p.m., Monday, June 15, at the Tivoli Theater, 5021 Highland Ave., Downers Grove
