Plunkett Furniture ending business

Hoffman Estates-based Plunkett Furniture is closing its doors. The company, founded in 1931 by Hugh Plunkett, is conducting liquidation at its five remaining locations in Hoffman Estates, Lombard, Northbrook, Vernon Hills and Ballwin, Mo. In 1999, with more customers starting to use the Internet for purchases, Hugh Plunkett said the Web was hurting the family business. Plunkett was at one time headquartered in Arlington Heights with the family long involved in the community and donating to many local charities.
