Reality TV everywhere; Drew on 'trial'

Reality hits home

It's a big weekend for ABC reality TV in the Chicago area. ABC's upcoming reality competition "Shark Tank" comes looking for willing entrepreneurs with an open casting call from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, June 13, at the Embassy Suites Chicago, 511 N. Columbus Drive. Find an application at abc.go.com. And Bartlett housewife Cathy Grosam takes part in the second edition of "I Survived a Japanese Game Show" when it debuts at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 17, on WLS Channel 7.

Drew Peterson on trial

WGN 720-AM airs the first segment of its two-part "The People v. Drew Peterson" special from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Sunday, June 14. Taped last month, it finds "Legally Speaking" hosts Greg Adamski and Karen Conti taking part in a mock trial of final arguments and jury deliberations.

Vampires rise again

HBO's sultry, sexy, comical vampire series "True Blood" returns for a second season at 8 p.m. Sunday, June 14, on the premium-cable channel. Anna Paquin is the Louisiana mind reader Sookie Stackhouse, bewitched and beloved by Stephen Moyer's vampire Bill Compton. The excellent Michelle Forbes, of "Homicide" fame, joins the cast as a mysterious newcomer.

Nyet nyet nymphet

Vladimir Nabokov's "Lolita" is one of the best novels of the postwar era, but even under the direction of filmmaker Stanley Kubrick it probably should have just stayed that way. Kubrick's 1962 movie is a game attempt, with James Mason as Humbert Humbert, Sue Lyon as the title character, Shelley Winters as her mom and best of all Peter Sellers as Humbert's rival, Clare Quilty, but it never attains the text's bittersweet poignancy. It's at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 13, on WTTW Channel 11.
