Last reminder on cop's missed tribute

Sgt. Richard W. Mosher, a retired Bensenville police officer and a former deputy chief, died June 9, 2003. The village of Bensenville and President John Geils chose to deny this dedicated and courageous police officer the honor guard traditionally given as a tribute to police offers upon their death. John Geils made his decision on a scandal and charge that was never proven.

Sgt. Mosher served Bensenville for 27 years as a dedicated officer protecting the residents. He should have received this tribute. He also served his country in Vietnam. President Geils disgraced the village and showed what little respect he had for his police department.

Finally, this year the residents of Bensenville elected Frank Soto as the president of Bensenville.

As village president, it is mandatory to reside in Bensenville. However, during John Geils' term in office, his place of residence was always in question and in doubt.

Now the residents are not concerned as to where he lives. Each year since 2003 I made a promise that I would remind President Geils of his bad decision in denying Sgt. Richard Mosher an Honor Guard.

This I have done each year. Since John Geils has been denied another term of office, this will be my last reminder, and my promise has been fulfilled. Sgt. Richard Mosher, may you rest in peace knowing that justice has been served.
