Chicago area has 100 bank robberies so far in 2009
The year isn't quite half over, and the Chicago area has had 100 bank robberies.
That's according to the Bandit Tracker Chicago Web site. The site features photos and descriptions of suspects in bank robberies dating back to 2006.
The site was launched last month by the FBI, the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff's Department.
Last year saw 277 robberies, and there were 284 in 2006, the standing record.
Authorities have given many of the bank robbers nicknames, including the "Bomb Lady Bandit," the "Orange Glove Bandit" and the "Red Line Robber."
The FBI believes the Red Line Robber is responsible for the armed robbery of at least eight Chicago-area banks since December.
