Elgin police say man jailed after chasing wife in car
An Elgin man who police say refused to let his wife get away from him faces a laundry list of charges stemming from a Sunday evening car chase involving the pair.
Yomny A. Zamacona, 30, of the 300 block of South Clifton Avenue, was charged with unlawful restraint, criminal trespass, two counts of domestic battery and one count of reckless driving following the incident, police said. He remained in custody Monday at the Kane County jail, unable to post a $7,500 bond.
According to court documents, Zamacona and his wife got into an argument, after which he yanked a set of keys away from her hard enough to cut her hand.
As she tried to leave, he restrained her, locked her inside the house and threatened to hurt her, documents said.
When a friend later pulled up to the home in an SUV, police said, Zamacona's wife escaped and got into the vehicle, which then sped away with two infants in the back seat
Zamacona gave chase in his own car at high rate of speed, police said, nearly running into a pedestrian while in pursuit. During the chase, reports said, Zamacona attempted to swerve his car into the SUV to stop his wife.
Zamacona's wife and the driver eventually ran into a neighbor's house with the babies and Zamacona followed them inside, then refused to leave, reports said.
Police arrived shortly thereafter.
Zamacona faces up to five years in prison if convicted of unlawful restraint. He is due in court June 19 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
