Motorola trying to sell Libertyville building

Motorola Inc. is seeking a buyer for one of its Libertyville buildings, as part of a move by the company to consolidate offices. Up for sale is Motorola's 84,000-square-foot brick structure at 1900 Winchester Road. Amenities include parking for 400 vehicles, a full cafeteria, executive offices, pond, garden and picnic area.

Motorola spokeswoman Kristine Mulford said the sale is related to the company's consolidation of two Libertyville offices.

She said 314 Mobile Devices employees have moved from the Winchester Road building to the main campus off Route 45. Mulford said the shift was completed in April and it didn't affect the work force size.

"Motorola continuously seeks ways to optimize its real estate portfolio and enhance operational efficiencies," Mulford said Monday.

Cushman & Wakefield, in conjunction with USI Property, is handling the sale of Schaumburg-based Motorola's Winchester Road building. In a statement, Cushman & Wakefield's Steve Trapp said the Libertyville structure just hit the market and already is attracting interest from larger corporate users.

Fewer employees are working for the Mobile Devices division in Libertyville. Motorola announced in January elimination of 497 jobs at that division, which opened in 1994. Global sales for Motorola's wireless telephones have been sliding.

Motorola placed a for-sale sign at its once-busy Arlington Heights campus in February. Six buildings that house Motorola's networks business, east of Route 53 and Dundee Road, are available.

In the early 1990s, roughly 7,000 employees worked around the clock at the Motorola campus in north Arlington Heights.

Mulford said the Arlington Heights buildings have yet to sell.
