Summer concerts start tonight in Grayslake
Grayslake Public Library is ready to launch a free summer concert series that'll feature music ranging from traditional Irish to jazz.
Banna Irish Duo will kick off the periodic event at 7 p.m. Monday, June 8. Named for a beloved beach in County Kerry in Ireland, Banna features Celtic ballads and songs that call for audience participation.
Seating for all concerts will be available on the library's front lawn. Visitors are allowed to bring their own lawn chairs, blankets and snacks.
Following are the other bands on tap for the library's free concerts:
• Harper College Steel Band is set for 7 p.m. Monday, June 22. Directed by Paul Ross, the steel band is known for playing calypso music from Trinidad. The band also gets into pop, bossa nova, classical and samba.
• More for Your Money will be featured at 7 p.m. Monday, June 29. The a cappella quartet is known for its performance of oldies.
• Jazz Spectrun will hit the stage at 7 p.m. Monday, July 13. Traveling Wisconsin and Illinois for gigs, Jazz Spectrum performs a tribute to the most popular groups from the 1940s and 1950s. In addition, Jazz Spectrum is known for its covers of Manhattan Transfer. Jazz Spectrum has released several compact discs.
• Morning Will Break is expected to perform at 7 p.m. Monday, July 27 in the final concert of the series. Morning Will Break is a Christian alt/rock band that originated in Lake County playing worship set and local shows. Under the tutelage of Indevo Records' Austin Cook, the group's latest CD was released in the spring.
