Carpentersville woman charged with ID theft
A Carpentersville woman faces up to 15 years in prison after being accused of stealing the identity of a 22-year-old Las Vegas woman.
Bond was set at $1,000 Friday morning for Zoila Ramos-Nunez, of the 400 block of Blackhawk Avenue.
She is charged with identity theft and possession of a fraudulent ID card. The identify theft is the most serious charge and carries a prison term of four to 15 years.
Carpentersville police became suspicious on Monday after they arrested her for a traffic offense, but her Social Security number that she provided police came up belonging to someone else.
Authorities went to her place of employment, Groth Manufacturing in Carpentersville, and arrested her.
The manager there told authorities Nunez, who turns 30 on Saturday, had been employed there since August 2006 and had earned about $20,000 during that time, according to court documents.
Nunez also admitted to authorities that she bought a fake Social Security card and fake resident alien card eight years ago for $150, documents said.
