Galesburg plant gradually shrinking work force

GALESBURG -- A Galesburg manufacturing firm has been gradually reducing its work force over the past few months, letting go of 135 people.

Mid-State Manufacturing plant manager Shawn Pitman says he hopes the company will be able to call some employees back once the economy improves.

He says employees saw the reductions coming and haven't been surprised.

Some workers have taken voluntary layoffs to help the company financially.

About 150 employees are left at the plant.
