Letter not meant to offend anyone

On May 10 the Herald published a letter which commented on my letter of April 22 ("Atheists might want to reconsider views"), wherein the reader stated my letter was "disturbing".

The letter was not intended to offend or disturb anyone. While it is not my intent to debate or dialog the issue, I would like to clarify points that I feel the reader misunderstood.

My letter did not say we were or are a Christian nation as the reader inferred. What it did say is our nation has been predominantly a Christian nation. I thought it self evident that I was referring to population, not legality. Our history bears this out as well as the many Christian church buildings located throughout the land.

Nor did I state or infer that people of other faiths are "lesser" people, as your reader suggested. I did state that we should not emulate lesser societies.
