Short circuit starts blaze in Naperville-area house

A fire broke out in the attic of a Naperville-area home Monday evening.

A resident called 911 at 8:44 p.m., and Naperville firefighters found smoke coming from attic vents of the house on the 28W660 block of Perkins in Will County, according to a news release. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes.

The resident was outside with firefighters arrived, and there were no injuries.

Investigators determined a short in a bathroom light switch sparked the blaze. The resident had heard a "pop" when he turned on the light and smelled smoke about an hour later, according to the news release.

No damage estimate was available.
