Tax deadline today

If you own land in Kane County, your first installment of property taxes is due today. You can make payment online by visiting kanecountytreasurer.org. You can also mail payment to the Kane County treasurer's office at 719 S. Batavia Ave., Geneva, IL 60134, or make it through a participating Kane County bank. Mailed payments must be postmarked June 1. If you need a copy of the bill to send with your payment, call (630) 232-3565.

Senior spelling bee

Registration is due Tuesday for the local portion of the Illinois State Senior Spelling Bee, to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Sugar Grove Police Department, 25 Municipal Drive. You must be at least age 50 and a resident of the Illinois 50th House District to participate. Call state Rep. Kay Hatcher's office at (630) 553-3223 to sign up.

Cancer survivors' party

The cancer-care team at Delnor Hospital will join in National Cancer Survivors Day Sunday with a party at 11 a.m. at Elfstrom Stadium, 38W848 Cherry Lane, Geneva. Enjoy a free lunch and a Kane County Cougars baseball game. For reservations, call (630) 208-3993.

Museum promo for kids

Children who participate in the "Passport to Adventure" program will find opportunities for exploration and journeys through history at Preservation Partners of the Fox Valley's Fabyan Villa Museum, Japanese Garden, Durant House Museum and Beith House Museum. Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, children 4 to 12 with Passports in hand can explore these museums and others in Kane and DuPage counties. If they collect seven stamps, they will receive a prize. Center announces new hours

Aurora University's Schingoethe Center for Native American Cultures will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. The museum is closed Mondays, Saturdays and Sundays and also during August. Fall semester hours resume Sept. 8. The center is at Dunham Hall, 1400 Marseillaise Place, Aurora.
