Elgin softball coach Peg Corcoran resigning
Peg Corcoran, a varsity softball coach in Elgin for the past 19 years, has submitted her resignation as Elgin High Scool's head softball coach.
Corcoran coached the Maroons the past six years after being the head coach at St. Edward High School for 13 years.
"I've been here six years and I think at this point it's time for someone to come in and get things accomplished I wasn't able to," Corcoran said Sunday night. "It was a tough decision but I think it's time for a change."
Corcoran, who will continue to teach physical education at the school as well as be an assistant athletic director, praised the athletes she's worked with in her program.
"I've enjoyed all of it," she said. "There are great kids at Elgin High. Win or lose I've had great kids at Elgin High and I've enjoyed watching them mature as athletes and students. We have kids at Elgin High who work hard and do the best they can. And the adminstration has always been very supportive of me. I've enjoyed working with (athletic director) Art Rohlman and (principal) Dave Smiley."
Corcoran said she wouldn't rule out coaching again in the right situation.
"I still love the game and I love the kids," she said. "I wouldn't say I'm done. I don't have anything on the back burner or anything like that but I wouldn't say I'm done."
Elgin was 9-23 this season but returns 7 starters.
"There's a great nucleus of kids coming back," Corcoran said.
