'Confessions' show torture won't work
How many, especially at that time in the past, young blacks were allegedly beaten and tortured into false confessions by a former Chicago police commander and others only to have these false confessions repudiated by DNA, confessions by the true perpetrators and by later proper investigations?
This shows that torture is an ineffective method of obtaining truth and cannot be relied upon. President Obama is correct. We Americans cannot accept torture or enhanced interrogation methods not only from a moral point of view, but also from a practical point of view. The Republicans are making a big mistake defending torture and will be known in infamy for this stance.
