Elgin Children's Choir to hold auditions

The Elgin Children's Chorus is holding auditions for the 2009-10 for interested students ages 7 to 16 with unchanged voices. For details, visit elginchildrenschorus.org or call (847) 931-7464.

Dates and times of auditions are as follows:

• Tuesday, June 2: Open auditions. No need to schedule an audition. Just show up at Elgin Community College Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin, between 5 and 6:30 p.m.

• Wednesday, June 3: Offsite auditions with Lisa Bettcher from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. in the Music Wing Room 3M at Dundee-Crown High School, 1 Charger Country in Carpentersville. Interested students ages 7 to 16 can find out more by visiting elginchildrenschorus.org or calling (847) 931-7464. Appointments are required.

• Auditions will be held at Elgin Community College Visual and Performing Arts Center, 1700 Spartan Drive in Elgin: 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 8; 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 9; and 7 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 15.

Auditions are open to all area children regardless of race, gender, religion and disability. Auditions are not stressful and children do not need to read music. The essential chorister attitude is one that desires to work hard learning great music and a commitment to regular attendance at rehearsals and performances.

To prepare for the audition, you may want to brush up on "My Country 'Tis of Thee" and the round "Are You Sleeping?"
