Need a full accounting of county jobs

Dear Members of the Finance Committee:

I read the article in Thursday's Daily Herald regarding DuPage County's hiring of summer workers, and wanted to provide you with my experience related to this subject. My daughter is a college student at Illinois State University, and began a job search in March for a summer full-time position. I had read that DuPage County was receiving stimulus dollars and would have seasonal positions available, and we looked on the county Web site a number of times for those positions under the "I want to apply for county jobs" menu and searched through the job openings. We never saw these summer/seasonal positions offered, although I personally have looked every two or three weeks since March.

My daughter has filled out more than 30 applications for a summer job and registered on two job-service Web sites and has had one interview so far. In this very tough job market, it appears that DuPage County is following the lead of our former governor and Cook County, where jobs are available for those who have "connections." I am very disappointed in the way this was handled, and look forward to a full and public accounting of this matter.
