Cops: Triple-murder suspect admits affair
WATERLOO -- Investigators say an Illinois man accused of strangling his wife and two sons was having an affair with a Florida woman and planned to get a divorce this summer.
The information is contained in a newly released affidavit accompanying a search warrant in the case against Christopher Coleman.
Coleman is charged with first-degree murder in the May 5 slayings of Sheri Coleman and their 11- and 9-year-old sons at their Columbia home. Coleman has pleaded not guilty and remains jailed without bond.
Investigators say the girlfriend, from St. Petersburg, Fla., told them Coleman assured her by e-mail that he was not the killer and had an alibi. They say the two planned to marry next year.
Coleman's attorney, William Margulis, declined to comment Friday.
