Barrington 'town hall' today:

The village of Barrington will host an open house from 5 to 9 p.m. today, Thursday, including a town-hall meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at village hall, 200 S. Hough St. Village President Karen Darch said the town hall meeting will provide information and answer questions about current issues in Barrington, with a strong focus on downtown redevelopment plans. The open house will feature information about village businesses and plans for stormwater maintenance improvements. The event also will include distribution of Barrington's newest shopping and dining guide.

Arlington Hts. park damaged:

Virginia Terrace Park, on the 1500 block of West Thomas Avenue in Arlington Heights, was vandalized with white spray paint over the weekend, police said. Park equipment, garbage cans, trees and grass were damaged.

Torah Academy open house Sunday:

An ice cream social open house for interested parents and their children will be held 2:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 31 in the Educational Wing of Congregation Beth Am, 225 McHenry Road just north of Lake-Cook Road. The event will have a science demonstration, arts and crafts projects, and live music and singing. This fall, the Torah Academy of Buffalo Grove is planning to lease space at Beth Am, where it will serve preschool, kindergartners and first-graders. Plans still need to be approved by the village board.

BG baseball plans tournament:

The Buffalo Grove High School baseball program and boosters will host a 100-inning tournament and barbecue on Saturday, May 30 at the varsity and freshman baseball fields at the school, 1100 W. Dundee Road. Six teams of Bison players, led by senior players, will compete against each other in a rapid pitch/wood bat tournament starting at 9 a.m. with the championship game around 4 p.m. A game between senior players and teachers will be held at 5 p.m. Burgers, hot dogs and beverages will be sold, and additional donations will be accepted. All proceeds will go toward improvements for the varsity baseball field. The rainout date is Sunday.
