FBI: Bandit Tracker site a success

Chicago's FBI office says the public's response to its new Bandit Tracker Web site featuring profiles of bank robbers has been "overwhelming."

Spokesman Ross Rice said Wednesday that traffic was so heavy last week it crashed the site three different days.

The FBI launched Bandit Tracker along with the Chicago Police Department and the Cook County Sheriff's Department.

So far, the site features photos and descriptions of 12 suspects in Chicago-area bank robberies dating back to 2006. Rice says the number of robbers featured will likely change daily.

Rice says officials have gotten at least a dozen tips from the site. He didn't know if any of those tips had led to arrests.

There have been 88 bank robberies in the Chicago area in 2009.
