Chicago teen charged in brutal slaying
CHICAGO -- A 15-year-old boy charged as an adult in the shooting death of a Chicago student whose body was found severely burned has been ordered held without bail.
Officials have charged Jovanny Martinez of Chicago with murder in the death of Chicago Public Schools student Alex Arellano. Martinez was denied bond at a court hearing Thursday in Chicago.
Police say Arellano's body was found in an alley on May 2, one day after the 15-year-old student was reported missing. The Cook County medical examiner's office says he died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Attorney Tim Biasiello represented Martinez in the hearing. He asked Circuit Judge Laura Sullivan for a reasonable bond because of Martinez's age and his family's low income.
