Boeing wins order for 5 Dreamliners; 5 767s canceled

Boeing Co. won an order for five 787 Dreamliners in the past week, while an agreement to buy five 767 widebody jets was canceled, leaving the total order tally for the year at zero.

The planemaker didn't identify the customers in the weekly order update on its Web site, and spokesman Jim Proulx declined to say if it was an exchange.

"It would be inappropriate to draw any conclusions from those two transactions," Proulx said.

Cancellations have matched new orders this year, with 65 of each, as airlines scale back spending as the recession reduces travel and tightens credit options for aircraft purchases. Most of the dropped orders have been for the Dreamliner, Boeing's new plane that is scheduled to have its maiden flight next month.

Chicago-based Boeing rose 28 cents to $43.85 at 11:14 a.m. in New York Stock Exchange composite trading. The shares fell 47 percent in the 12 months before today.
