Cubs put Miles on DL, demote Scales, Cotts
The Chicago Cubs have placed infielder Aaron Miles on the 15-day disabled list and optioned lefty reliever Neal Cotts and infielder Bobby Scales to Triple-A Iowa.
Mile was batting only .204 and has a right shoulder strain.
Cotts has struggled with his consistency and was 0-2 with a 7.36 ERA in 19 appearances.
Scales made his major league debut on May 5 after bouncing around the minors for 11 years. Scales batted .257 with a homer and five RBIs in 14 games.
The struggling team on Wednesday also recalled infielder Jake Fox and selected the contracts of infielder Andres Blanco and left-hander Jason Waddell from Iowa.
Fox was one of the hottest hitters in Triple A with a .423 average, 17 homers and 50 RBIs in 40 games for Iowa. He'll be used off the bench and could play third, first or the outfielder.
