Waukegan women deny forging prescriptions

A pair of Waukegan women pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges they tried to pass a forged prescription at a Gurnee pharmacy.

Laura Zeit, 53, and Eunice Mackie, 39, face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Mat Demartini said the women, both of the 1400 block of Grand Avenue, obtained copies of prescription forms of a Waukegan doctor.

On April 24, Zeit took one of the forms made out for a supply of Oxycoton to the Walgreens at 4830 Route 132 in Gurnee and attempted to have the prescription filled.

A pharmacist at the store recognized the form was a fake and called police, Demartini said.

Zeit attempted to leave the store as police were arriving, he said, but officers caught her in the parking lot.

Police say Zeit told them she knew the form had been forged and told them she had gotten the form from Mackie.

Police questioned Mackie and say she told them she is part of a group of people who use the forms to obtain controlled substances.

Both are charged with forgery and unlawful possession of prescription forms.

Associate Judge George Bridges scheduled a trial of the case for June 29, and ordered both women to appear in court June 11.
