S. Elgin man busted on child porn charges
A South Elgin man faces up to 30 years in prison after being arrested today on charges he had pornographic pictures and videos of children younger than 13, police said.
Authorities arrested Mauro Rivera, 38, of the 900 block of Manchester Court, at about 6 a.m. at his residence.
He is accused of four counts of aggravated child pornography and is due in bond court Tuesday morning.
South Elgin Police Sgt. Mike Doty said authorities began investigating Rivera in March when officers from the Elmhurst Police Department and Illinois Attorney General's office both found images posted on a Web site known for child pornography and traced them back to Rivera.
Doty said authorities arrested Rivera without incident and seized his computer.
He said the number of images on the computer won't be known until authorities complete a forensic analysis of the computer and other software.
Doty said police don't believe Rivera has touched or approached any children and that the public should not be alarmed.
Probation is not an option for the pornography charges, which carry six to 30 years in prison.
