Reckless homicide suspect released on bond
A Warren Township man charged with reckless homicide in a May 22 crash that killed a passenger in his vehicle has been released from custody after posting $10,000 for bond. Adam Burkhardt, 22, faces up to 14 years in prison if convicted in the death of Andrew Gallo, 22, of Northbrook. Police say Burkhardt's 2000 Chevrolet Silverado went off the road at a high rate of speed on Lebaron Street in Waukegan about 2:30 a.m. and struck a loaded semitrailer truck parked in a lot. Gallo was pronounced dead at the scene and Burkhardt was treated for minor injuries at a hospital before being turned over to police. Assistant State's Attorney Stephen Scheller said tests revealed Burkhardt had a blood-alcohol level of 0.124 percent at the time of the crash, above the legal definition of intoxication of 0.08 percent. Scheller said Burkhardt was released after a court appearance Sunday, and is due to appear in court again on June 2.
