DePaul softball slugger earns national honors
DePaul softball standout Amber Patton has been named a second team Academic All-American, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America for ESPN the magazine.
Thirty-three student-athletes were named to the first, second and third teams based on excellence in the playing field and in the classroom.
Patton will graduate in November 2009 with a degree in marketing and a concentration in sale leadership. The senior from Forsyth, Ill., boasts a 3.4 GPA.
On the field, Patton led the Blue Demons with a school-record .497 average and 89 hits. A first team All-Big East selection at third base, Patton ranked among the nation's best in batting average, on base percentage and was one of the toughest batters to strike out.
