Two killed in Elgin-O'Hare crash
Two people were killed just after 3 p.m. Monday on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway near Itasca, officials said Tuesday.
A male and female in their 80s were discovered at about 3 p.m. after their vehicle ran off the road and caught fire after hitting an exit sign on the shoulder of the expressway near Meacham Road, officials said early Tuesday.
Medical Examiner officials would not release the identity's of either the driver or passenger of car that died when contacted at 7 a.m. Tuesday morning.
An off-duty police officer who discovered the accident who was injured trying to rescue the two has been treated and released from Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. He suffered from smoke inhalation after pulling each of the victims out of the vehicle and away from the car.
