Child safety info:

Valley Insurance Agency Inc. and Mill Creek Market will have a free child safety and fingerprint clinic from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the store, 39W250 Herrington Drive, Geneva. Walking club forms:

Geneva Park District offers a new walking club. An informational meeting is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Stephen D. Persinger Recreation Center, 3507 Kaneville Road. All fitness levels are welcome and participants will walk at their own pace. Call Mickey Boyle at (630) 262-2214 for more.

ECC faculty lauded:

Six Elgin Community College faculty members were recently recognized by the National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development for their teaching and leadership. Recipients of the organization's excellence award were: Alison Douglas, assistant professor of English; Gretl Kramer, professor emeritus; Connie Orbeta, graphic design professor; Dan Kernler, assistant professor of math; Linda Hefferin, management professor; and Ronald Kowalczyk, adjunct paralegal faculty.

Cancer survivors' party:

The cancer-care team at Delnor Hospital will join in National Cancer Survivors Day June 7 with a party at 11 a.m. at Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva. Enjoy a free lunch and a Kane County Cougars baseball game. For reservations, call (630) 208-3993.

Bonsai picnic:

The Prairie State Bonsai Society will have its annual picnic and display from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Japanese Garden in the Fabyan Forest Preserve, Route 31 north of Fabyan Parkway, Geneva. Stewardship needed:

The Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District Fire Commission has an opening on the board that expires in June 2010. District officials ask all interested people to send a letter detailing your name, address, contact information, how long you have lived in the district, your current profession and any community projects or experience you have. The board also requests a 300-word essay detailing why you want to join the commission. Letters are due June 5. They should be sent to the attention of the board president at the headquarters station, 1020 W. Algonquin Rd., Lake in the Hills, 60156.
