Elk Grove bats boom
One day after winning the Mid-Suburban League championship, Elk Grove's bats were on fire.
The Grenadiers (30-2) smashed 4 home runs in an 11-0 six-inning victory under the lights at Elmwood Park on Friday night.
Hall of Fame Grens coach Ken Grams could not recall one of his 29 teams belting 4 homers in a game.
Two of them were solo blasts over the center-field fence by senior second baseman Caitlin Garrison, who had the game-winning RBI double in the 3-0 MSL championship victory.
Winning title game pitcher Stephanie Maday (2-for-3) also had a homer over the right-field fence in the third inning while sophomore Kristen Cetkovic belted a grand slam in the second inning for Elk Grove's first 4 runs.
Freshman Dani Goranson (11-0) earned the win with 6 strikeouts and 3 hits in the first three innings while Krystina Leazer (2 RBI) gave up only 1 hit and struck out five in the final three innings.
Garrison finished 4-for-4 with her 2 homers, a double, single and 3 RBI. Nikki Goranson was 2-for-3 and teammate Stephanie Dolce 2-for-4 for the Grens who have a pair of games today with Resurrection (10 a.m. at home) and Sandburg (3 p.m. at the Stone City Jamboree in Minooka.
Fremd 10, Glenbrook South 0 (5): Senior Casey Latal (11-1) threw a 2-hitter with 6 strikeouts as Fremd ended it regular season at 27-4.
Senior Jessica Tackett belted her seventh homer of the season and Tess Dinterman (2-for-3) added her second home run for the host Vikings.
Ali Gaeding doubled while teammate Lauren Zaworski was 2-for-2 with 2 runs, an RBI and a walk.
