To the driver who ran down baby geese

On May 15, just shortly after noon, a speeding driver on Raintree Drive in Glen Ellyn killed three baby geese. Just east of the stop sign, which you probably didn't stop at, either, you ran down three of the four baby geese who were between 4 and 6 weeks of age, crossing the street with the Mom and Dad closely supervising. These adult geese have been very protective of their young since birth. I see you and your kind almost every day. You are in such a hurry that you barely slow down, begin honking your horn and expect that the geese or ducks will take flight to get out of your way. Most times they do. However, these babies couldn't fly yet, so you cold-heartedly ran them down. You left three tiny lifeless bodies in the road, just so you could get to your destination 20 seconds earlier.

I have gone outside, many times these weeks since the babies have hatched, just to be certain that this little family can cross the street safely. Too bad I wasn't out there yesterday. It was very sad yesterday evening, to see the two adults sitting on the bank of the pond with their one remaining baby. I am ashamed to be living in the same community as you... who have so little regard for wildlife.
