Shining example of government working

As many of you, I often find myself complaining about government. However, on May 18, I heard and saw two elected government bodies, Glenbard High School District 87 and Carol Stream Park District, and one volunteer organization, Glenbard North Athletic Boosters, come together to represent their constituents in the finest manner. I need to thank the entire District 87 school, park and booster boards for their time and concern related to finance, safety and health of our school community and the Carol Stream family. Specifically I would like to thank school board President Rose Malcolm, park board President Dan Bird, Executive Director Arnie Biondo, and Boosters Co-Presidents Patti Fornino and Jodie Keating. Special thanks must go to Principal Dr. John Mensik and Athletic Director Matt Bowser. All of these individuals have spent endless hours doing research and keeping everyone informed of the possibilities.

Through the efforts of these three organizations, the Glenbard North Athletic field will be getting an artificial turf installation. The benefits to the school will be a more playable surface for athletics, more usable outdoor facilities for physical education classes, and our marching band will have a safe, accessible practice/performance field. The benefits to the Carol Stream community will be in better facilities for youth athletics, less impact of nighttime lightning to the surrounding neighborhood, and better rainwater drainage management for the surrounding homes. In this tough economy, it is wonderful to see our school and community working together to continue to move forward.
