Eyebrow-raising use of taxpayer money
Don Puchalski, in his May 13 letter to the editor (Complaint about fundraiser off base), is correct that the Democrats lacked victories in the 2009 consolidated elections, but what he may not realize is that a larger race was run and won with the organizing strength of the Democratic party. With a bit more time (the new Democratic leadership has been in office barely a year and has a depth of talent) and a little more focus, electoral dominoes will fall all over DuPage. It took years for Pat Durante to take over Addison so he could hand the $60,000-per-year supervisor job to his wife. Democrats are willing to invest the necessary time - and suffer a little Republican bloviating - as we strive for responsive government for all the citizens of Addison and DuPage. Puchalski and Durante like to ramble on and on about clerical filing errors, quickly corrected by Mr. Peickert and fully accepted by the state board of elections, when both men continue to use taxpayer money to benefit themselves in ways that would raise the eyebrows of most average, fair-minded citizens of any stripe.
