New South Barrington park dedicated Sunday

South Barrington's third and largest park will be dedicated Sunday.

The 20-acre Community Park at 8 Bridges Drive, next to The Woods of South Barrington subdivision.

Following a walk and fun run sponsored by The Arboretum of South Barrington shopping center at 9 a.m. Sunday, dedication of the South Barrington Park District's newest amenity will be at 10 a.m.

The free event includes a kite fly, train rides, an interactive show and a free lunch.

Community Park, The Woods and The Arboretum are all components of the same 630-acre development.

Park features include baseball fields, artificial-turf soccer fields, tennis courts, sand volleyball courts, two large playgrounds, bocce ball courts, shuffleboard courts and a walking path.

Some amenities, like the soccer fields, have been in use since last fall. Others are in final stages of completion, parks Director Jay Morgan said. But everything is expected to be done by the time school ends in early June.

The district's two existing locations for active recreation are the Community Center and South Barrington Club and Marvin Dunteman Park.

The district also has two other parcels, one 12 acres and one 32, whose development will be driven by future need, Morgan said.
