Memorial marks fatal Arlington Hts. crash site

A wooden cross, an artificial purple rose, carnations and candles mark the site where Jose Antonio Guzman-Ojeda of Wheeling was killed in a car crash in Arlington Heights late Wednesday.

No citations had been issued in the accident as of Friday, Arlington Heights Police said.

Guzman-Ojeda, 26, was a rear seat passenger in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am that went off the road and hit a tree while speeding eastbound on Palatine Road east of Rand Road, police said.

Funeral arrangements for Guzman-Ojeda are pending.

The driver, Gerardo Torres-Salas, 28, of Prospect Heights, and a 26-year-old passenger from Wheeling were released Friday from Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. The condition of a fourth occupant - a Prospect Heights resident whose age is unknown - at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge could not be determined.
