Obama-praised restaurant to close

A restaurant that President Barack Obama once touted on a Chicago television program is set to close.

The Dixie Kitchen and Bait Shop in Obama's Hyde Park neighborhood will close June 7. Then-state Sen. Obama effusively recommended the southern-style restaurant seven years ago on "Check Please!," a Chicago public television round-table restaurant review show.

The restaurant's lease ends June 30. Owner Carol Andresen says she'll continue to offer some of its specialties at Calypso Cafe, a nearby sister restaurant.

And Obama will still be able to go to Dixie Kitchen -- he'll just have to travel further. The restaurant's two locations in the Chicago suburbs of Evanston and Lansing will remain open.
