Big snake problems in Florida

To this day I will never understand why some people find it necessary to get rid of their pet snakes by dumping them in the south Florida Everglades.

The latest find by wildlife officers was a 16 1/2-foot Burmese python which was also carrying 59 eggs. Officials noted that because the python was pregnant that alone proved a snake like this one in the wild was able to breed in the wild.

South Florida has been inundated with abandoned pythons along with other reptiles which subsequently wind up slithering around the Everglades and other Florida wetlands.

The creel deal: There are significant changes for walleyes bag limits in northern Wisconsin.

Daily walleye limits increase May 22 on 255 lakes in Wisconsin's ceded territory to reflect the spring spearing harvest by six Wisconsin bands of Chippewa Indians. The link below offers details as to which lakes are included in the daily limit of two to three walleyes a day on 92 lakes. An additional 163 lakes will now have limits of five fish. How's fishing?

Fox Chain: No monsters reported this week, but some anglers have zeroed in on current areas for the walleye action, especially on Pistakee and Nippersink Lakes. The Channel Lake bluegill bite is excellent, with decent catches coming from the lake's north end.

Fox River: Improved smallie action near Carpentersville on small crankbaits and tube jigs.

Lake Geneva: Improved smallmouth and crappie action in Williams Bay.

Lake Michigan: Coho reports are varied, with Chicago fish being taken in shallow water. Salmon are hitting spoon s and flies down close to 100 feet near Waukegan and Northpoint.
