30-year-old Elgin man accused of impregnating teenager
A 30-year-old Elgin man is accused of carrying on a nearly two-year sexual relationship with a teenage girl that began when she was 13 years old, police said.
Miguel Sarmiento-Parra, of the 300 block of Brook Street, also admits to fathering the girl's 9-month-old son.
He is charged with aggravated criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, both Class 2 felonies.
Kane County Judge John Noverini set his bond Wednesday morning at 10 percent of $300,000.
He was unable to post bond and was sent to the Kane County jail.
Their relationship started in September 2007 and ended Monday, court documents said.
The girl, now 14, told authorities from the Kane County Child Advocacy Center that she'd had sex with Sarmiento-Parra on multiple occasions at his home.
Sarmiento-Parra said the girl initially told him she was 17.
Yet after finding out her real age, he continued having sex with her once or twice a week, court documents said.
Police arrested Sarmiento-Parra at his home Tuesday.
Sarmiento-Parra, who was born in Mexico, is unemployed and living in the United States illegally, documents said.
He is due in court June 5 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
The Class X felony charge could put him away for up to 30 years.
