Pam Davis' efforts are hardly 'antics'

Recently, area hospital CEOs lectured Plainfield residents about how satisfied we should be with adequate (defined by Webster as barely sufficient) hospital service access.

Supporters of Edward Plainfield Hospital realize that these administrators are seeking to protect their hospitals' bottom lines and maintain the status quo. They don't want Edward Plainfield because it would redefine how area residents choose a hospital provider.

Their position is nothing new and has been obstructionist from the beginning. What is a surprise is that they would jointly sign a derogatory letter that is not worthy of their positions of responsibility.

They should be embarrassed by their latest letter as it crosses the line from tedious to insulting and demeaning. They characterize years of hard work, tenacious public support and the courage of Pam Davis as antics. Their arrogant tone and we-know-what's-best-for-you attitude alienates the people they say they want to serve.

Ms. Davis and her staff have worked tirelessly to improve hospital access for Plainfield-area residents. They get it. They know that travel times, population shift and lower-than-state-average bed counts are powerful reasons for a new hospital.

The quest for Edward Plainfield led to an unexpected chain of events that exposed corruption, pay to play deals and unethical behaviors by members of the board. The people of Illinois owe Ms. Davis a debt of gratitude for working with law enforcement agencies to uncover illegal acts at the highest levels of Illinois government.

Hardly antics, gentlemen. The planning board is forever tainted. State staff needs to be fired, rules for approving new hospitals need to change. The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board should be eliminated.

The three CEOs don't see it that way. The status quo suits them just fine.
