Art supplies drive
Batavia Artist Association at Water Street Studios, 160 S. Water St., is hosting a School of Art open house and art supplies drive from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at its temporary gallery space at 160 W. Wilson St. Gallery and education staff will answer questions about summer programming. A supplies wish list is at waterstreetstudios.com. Water Street Studios will feature two classrooms, a gallery and 26 art studios for rent.
American Legion fundraiser
The Batavia American Legion Post 504 will have its annual Poppy Day sale Saturday and Sunday. Donations collected support the post's charitable activities, including sending youth to summer leadership camps. Donations will be collected at stores and restaurants throughout town, including Jewel-Osco on Randall Road and Apple Villa Restaurant on West Wilson Street.
Online architecture contest
The City of Geneva is conducting an architectural treasure hunt contest to celebrate National Historic Preservation Month. Visit geneva.il.us and click on "community development/historic preservation." Correctly completed entries will be put in a drawing for gift certificates to be used at Geneva stores. Entries are due at 3 p.m. May 26.
School ends early
The school year will end a day early for students at Western Avenue and Harrison Street elementary schools in Geneva, on June 2. The change enables staff to pack for moves and in preparation for construction work at Western Avenue this summer. Harrison Street will move out of the old Coultrap Elementary building and back to its own, renovated quarters.
