Hit-and-run crash leads to slew of charges for Carpentersville man
A Carpentersville man was charged with a string of offenses after a weekend hit-and-run crash on the village's east side, police said.
Raul Herrera, 27, of the first block of Hickory Lane, was driving a 1996 Jeep west on Tee Lane about 12:30 a.m. Sunday when he lost control of his vehicle and sideswiped a 1990 GMC van headed east on Tee Lane near Tee Road and drove off after the crash, police said. There was minor damage to the van; police said a bumper and license plate from the Jeep was left at the scene.
About 15 minutes later, police spotted the Jeep near Route 25 and Fir Street. When police attempted to pull Herrera over, he tried to flee but was stopped at Kings Road near Alameda Drive, police said.
Herrera was charged with a felony count of DUI because was driving on a suspended license resulting from a previous DUI arrest. He was also charged with failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, failure to give aid and information, failure to report an accident, having an expired license plate, registration suspended for non-insurance and open liquor.
Herrera was taken to Kane County jail, where he remained Tuesday in lieu of $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Kane Count Court at 9 a.m. May 29.
