Man killed in hit-and-run near Libertyville; police seeking info

Officers from the Lake County sheriff's office are investigating a hit-and-run accident that killed a 26-year-old man near Libertyville.

Peter Padour was found on the side of Buckley Road, also known as Route 137, by a passing motorist at about 4 a.m. Sunday, according to Sgt. Jeff Burke.

Police believe Padour was hit a short time earlier by a car traveling in the westbound lanes near his home on the 15600 block of Buckley Road in unincorporated Lake County, near River Road.

Paramedics from the Libertyville Fire Department responded to the scene.

Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said Padour died from multiple traumas. Keller said his office is waiting for toxicology tests to be completed so it is not yet known whether drugs or alcohol were a factor.

Investigators noticed a bag of fast food near Padour's body. Burke said they viewed surveillance videotape taken at McDonald's in Libertyville that confirmed Padour had stopped at the restaurant before being hit.

There were no witnesses to the incident, but a piece of the car that struck Padour was found at the scene. Burke said the part is being examined to determine what type of vehicle was involved. Right now, the best guess is that it was a small car, Burke said.

Sheriff's police will be stopping cars on Monday morning around the same time as Sunday's accident hoping to find a witness.

"We don't have a whole lot to go on right now," Burke said. "It would be good if we could catch a break and have the driver come forward and confess."

Anyone who might have information about the accident should call the sheriff's office at (847) 377-7117.
