Five charged in Plato Twp. vehicle thefts

Three Aurora men and two juveniles are charged in connection with two motor vehicle thefts and a break-in this month in northern Kane County, authorities said Thursday.

Ebelio Ponce, 17, of the 1300 block of Fourth Street; Trevor W. Gabler, 19, of the 400 block of Liberty Avenue; Steven Dryden, 50, also of the 400 block of Liberty Avenue; and a two male Aurora juveniles, ages 15 and 16, were arrested in a traffic stop in St. Charles earlier this month.

According to the Kane County Sheriff, the May 7 offenses included the thefts of a 1992 Ford Explorer and a 1999 Kawasaki ATV in Plato Township, and a break-in that caused $3,400 in damage to a school bus window at Burlington-Central High School.

Ponce, Gabler, Dryden and the juveniles each are charged with possession of a stolen motor vehicle. Ponce, Gabler and the juveniles also are charged with possession of a converted vehicle. In addition, Ponce is charged with burglary, and Gabler is charged with criminal property damage.

Police said the juveniles, who are not being identified because of their ages, were referred to juvenile court. Ponce was released after posting a $1,000 bond. Gabler and Dryden remain in the county jail with in lieu of $50,000 and $30,000 bonds, respectively.
